Kidney issues occur when your kidneys no longer have the capacity to function normally. Kidney diseases maximise the risk of health-related complications and need to be treated immediately by the best healthcare services.

There are two types of kidney disease

  • Acute kidney disease is the occurrence of sudden kidney failure in patients. However, when the root causes are diagnosed and treated properly, this condition is reversible.
  • Chronic Kidney Disease is a condition where the kidney loses its capacity to function gradually over a period.

With advancements made in medical technology along with the service of highly qualified Doctors and surgeons, you can overcome the disease and live healthily.

People experience anxiety and depression as they receive misinformation through the real world and virtual platforms. We have discussed a few myths people have and real Facts about kidney diseases.

1. Myth: The cause of kidney disease is not known

Fact: This is a false statement as there are many causes and the most common are blood pressure, Glomerulonephritis, polycystic kidney disease, heart disease and diabetes. These are a few health issues that can damage your kidneys.

2. Myth: Dialysis is the only treatment option for kidney disease

Fact: No, this is a wrong perception because dialysis will not be recommended by physicians for every patient with kidney problems. When a person is diagnosed with early stages kidney disease, then he or she will initially be treated with proper medication, diet changes and exercise. Therefore, it is vital to regularly check the health condition of your kidney to find any complications arising. A kidney transplant or dialysis will be needed only when the kidney's condition worsens and develops a kidney failure.

3. Myth: Kidney disease can be caused by kidney stones

Fact: Kidney stones rarely develop into chronic kidney disease. Almost one person out of ten people might be having kidney stone problems. Since the kidney stones cause severe pain and discomfort, this issue will be treated immediately and so will not progress to chronic kidney damage. Drinking plenty of pure water can help in preventing the occurrence of kidney stones.

4. Myth: Patients can easily know that they are having kidney problems

Fact: This is a myth because most people with kidney problems will not be able to recognise it until the disease progresses to advanced stages. This is because there are no visible symptoms and signs of kidney diseases in the early stages. The best way to find out the health of your kidneys is by performing routine health check-ups and conducting tests regularly to confirm the proper functioning and health condition of the kidneys.

5. Myth: Tests to monitor your kidneys are an expensive and long process.

Fact: No, this is not a true fact. The tests for checking the health issues of your kidneys are not expensive and can be performed with a few easy & simple steps without burning your pockets. The two of the basic tests that can easily help in detecting accurately kidney disease are the following-

  • The urine test will give a clear insight into your kidney functioning and shows the perfect amount of protein leakage through urine from the kidney in one day.
  • A simple and easy blood test is done to estimate the glomerular filtration rate. This GFR number will reveal the health condition of your kidneys.

6. Myth: Kidney Disease occurs in people with high-risk health conditions

Fact: Each person has different types of body and health conditions. It has been observed that not everyone with high-risk health conditions gets kidney failure disease.

If these risky patients start following a positive approach and healthy lifestyles such as eating highly nutritious foods, exercising regularly, preventing obesity, avoiding using painkiller medicines, and quitting alcohol and smoking, they can reduce the chances of getting kidney infection and disease.

7. Myth: Kidney failures can be cured by dialysis

Fact: Unfortunately No, kidney failures cannot be cured by dialysis. Dialysis is a highly effective treatment that removes excess fluids, and waste materials from the blood and restores disturbances of electrolytes. This treatment is performed by diverting the patient's blood into a medical device for cleaning purposes. Dialysis is the treatment process that is recommended by Doctors when your kidneys lose their capacity to function normally by allowing the medical device to perform the functions that your kidney does. This treatment does not cure the disease but helps in prolonging the lives of the patients struggling with chronic Kidney failure. A kidney transplant is considered the only treatment of choice for chronic kidney failure when compared with dialysis. This is because of the fact that dialysis is more like medical management and cannot cure the illness.

8. Myth: kidneys are healthy if you frequently urinate

Fact: This is incorrect because if you are frequently urinating, it might be a symptom of some abnormalities in your kidneys. Kidneys with infections and diseases lose their capacity to concentrate urine and start producing huge amounts of urine without removing the unwanted products. Similarly, some reasons for your frequent urination could be hormonal fluctuation, prostrate issues and uncontrollable diabetes.
